Ed Bassin, Ph.D. Bio

Dr. Bassin has devoted the last 20 years to advancing the application of episodes of care to both analytics and payment methodologies. He began with analytic application of episode-based analysis and moved to episode-based bundled payments around 2010.

Ed began his health care analytics career designing and developing physician profiling and quality measurement systems for health plans and provider organizations. He eventually formed his own software company, ProfSoft, which developed cutting-edge methods for using episodes to measure efficiency and quality of care. That company was sold to Thomson Reuters in 2009.

Since then, Dr. Bassin has focused more on the use of episodes for bundled payments. He began by designing software while at ProfSoft. In 2011, he joined Remedy Partners where he served as Senior Vice President for Strategy and Analytics. His work at Remedy included customer education, planning, policy analysis, and advising the company on the implications of Medicare’s Bundled Payments for Care Improvement program rules. In 2016, he joined Archway Health as its Chief Analytics Officer. His responsibilities, include design and development of claims analytics, management dashboards, and deep dive analytics into specific bundles. Ed participates in a number of forums focused on bundled payment mechanics and policy. He is a member of the Health Care Payment Learning Action Network’s (HCP-LAN) Bundled Payment Work Group.

Dr. Bassin holds both master's and doctoral degrees in sociology, with concentrations in medical sociology and statistics, from Indiana University.
